ISY-ZWAVE-ALPHA:Z-Wave Alpha

Introduction

This module provides ISY support for Z-Wave in a way that integrates with other protocols running on the same ISY. For example, you may add a Z-Wave lamp into a scene with Insteon devices.

The alpha phase of the Z-Wave module begins with a very limited set of devices, namely

  • Thermostats
  • Lamp dimmers
  • Appliance module (on/off)
  • Schlage locks

Other limitations

  • Scenes are simulated through ISY
  • Devices must be added directly to ISY (Z-Wave replication is not enabled at this point)

Features planned for future Alpha (or Beta) builds

  • Support for additional devices
  • Display and Edit device properties
  • Native support for scenes (all forms supported by Z-Wave)
  • Common Z-Wave utilities (e.g. Replication, Change Primary Controller, etc.)
  • Replacing a device

Requirements & Installation

  • ISY994 Series with firmware version 4.0.1 or above (Help | About)
  • Z-Wave Module - 21100 (Help | About). If you do not have the Z-Wave Module, please do make sure you have firmware 4.0.1 installed first and then contact sales@universal-devices.com with your ISY's UUID (Help | About) to get the module activated
  • Z-Wave Dongle & ISY serial port Expansion board
    • Open your ISY and install the Expansion board into the socket on the left side of ISY
    • Punch through the perforated square on the back of ISY so that the RJ45 port on the Expansion board can protrude outside
    • Put ISY back together
  • Z-Wave Dongle plugged into the new RJ45 Port on the Expansion board via cable attached to its micro USB port
  • Insteon PLM plugged into Port A

Adding/Removing Devices

ZWaveAlpha ZWaveMenu.png

A Z-Wave device typically exists in both the ISY and in the Z-Wave dongle itself, but not in all cases. Using "Remove/Exclude a Z-Wave Device" removes it only from the Z-Wave dongle. Using right+click on the device in the tree and selecting "delete" only removes it from the ISY. One of the reasons we do not remove the device from both locations is for possible device replacement in the future.

Adding Devices

  • Select 'Add a Z-Wave Device' from the menu and wait for a popup menu to appear.
    • If the popup menu does not appear, Select 'Stop Adding or Removing a Z-Wave Device' from the advanced menu then try again.
  • Put the Z-Wave device in link mode. Refer to the user guide for your product on how to do this. In many cases, this just requires you to press a button on the device.
  • The ISY will begin adding the device (this may occur a fewe seconds after you put the device in link mode)
    • The popup menu will go away, and you will see your device added to the tree.

Troubleshooting

  • To add a device, it must not already be enrolled in a Z-Wave network. Therefore, if you are having trouble adding a device then try removing it first.

Removing Devices

  • Select 'Remove/Exclude a Z-Wave Device' from the menu and wait for a popup menu to appear.
  • The ISY will remove the device (this may occur a fewe seconds after you put the device in link mode)
    • The popup menu will go away, but you will NOT see your device removed from the tree.

To remove the device from the device tree, right+click on the device and select "Delete"

Synchronize Z-Wave Nodes

This step causes the ISY to read all the nodes from the Z-Wave dongle and create ISY nodes for each device if they do no exist already.
